Sensitivity

Your sensitivity is not the problem

22 July 2026 · 6 min read

You were never too much. You were simply asked to work in rooms that were built for a different kind of nervous system.

Somewhere along the way you learned that noticing everything was inconvenient. That your ability to feel the mood shift in a room before anyone spoke was a liability rather than a gift. So you began to shrink it, manage it, apologise for it.

I want to offer you a different reading. The sensitivity you've been told to dial down is the same faculty that makes you extraordinary at what you do. It's the reason your clients feel met. It's the reason you catch the thing nobody else caught. It's not a flaw in your wiring, it's the wiring.

What is genuinely exhausting isn't the sensitivity itself. It's the constant, invisible labour of masking it. The pre-meeting rehearsal, the post-meeting replay, the performance of unbothered ease when you are anything but. That is where the depletion lives.

So the work is rarely about becoming less sensitive. It's about building a business and a life with enough structure, spaciousness and honesty that you don't have to keep hiding how you actually function.

Start small. One meeting you don't rehearse. One day a week with no calls in it. One client boundary you say out loud instead of silently resenting. Sensitivity thrives inside good scaffolding, and scaffolding is something we can build.

If this landed somewhere true, we could talk about it properly.
